Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where are you located?
A: The Adoption Center of Choice is located in Orem, Utah. We work with birth mothers and adoptive parents from all over the United States.
Q: Is there any cost to me and what kind of help will I receive from The Adoption Center of Choice?
A: There is no cost to you for the adoption. All expenses related to the adoption are covered by the adoptive parents with whom your child is placed. We will help you in every way possible, from medical and financial needs to transportation and living expenses. Most importantly, we are here for you emotionally and from the heart. Whatever you need, we can help.
Q: Is financial assistance available?
A: Each person who calls us has different needs. We look at each individual situation, how far along they are in pregnancy and then assess their needs accordingly.
Q: What about the birth father?
A: If the father of your baby knows that you are pregnant and is supportive of the adoption, he can be as involved in the process as you would like him to be. If he is not supportive of the adoption plan, we will discuss your options with you. We realize that it can be a difficult time for you both.
Q: Can I choose the adoptive parents?
A: Yes! Absolutely! You may choose the adoptive parents. Our adoption counselors will meet with you and find out what specific criteria you are looking for in a family (i.e. race, religion, age, other children, etc.). We will present you with profiles of families that meet your specifications. You will know their first names, see profiles of their lives, and if you request pictures and updates following placement, they will be sent to you through the agency.
Q: What happens before the baby is born?
A: Once you choose a family and are solid in your decision, it is considered a "match". If you desire to meet the family or participate in a conference call with them, this can be arranged. Our adoption counselors will assist you in making an adoption plan and will work with you throughout the process.
Q: What will happen when I go into labor?
A: We will make arrangements for that ahead of time, whether you are living at home or have chosen to stay with us prior to your delivery. We will take good care of you. You are never alone and will be well supported during the birth of your child. It is your choice whether or not the adoptive parents are present for the delivery.
Q: What happens after the baby is born?
A: After the baby is born you will most likely remain in the hospital for 24 hours before you are released. It is your choice how much contact you wish to have with the baby at the hospital. If you have chosen a family, they will be informed of your progress. If you want them at the hospital with you, that may be arranged. We will go at your pace. You are in charge. You will be required to fill out the birth certificate and other hospital forms while there, along with your release signature to the new adoptive parents. Your adoption support counselor will be there to help you every step of the way at the hospital and for more support while helping you finalize plans regarding legal documents, etc.
Q: Will anyone find out about the adoption?
A: Your adoption plan is very confidential. Whom you share it with is strictly up to you. Every thing that you share with our adoption counselors will be held in the strictest confidence.
Q: What hours may your office be reached?
A: An agency representative may be reached 24 hours a day by dialing 1-800-570-0480. We can also be reached via e-mail at info@theadoptioncenter.com.
Q: What will my child think of me for placing him/her for adoption?
A: Making an adoption plan is a courageous and unselfish way to show your child you love them if you are not prepared yet to parent yourself. If a woman is not ready to parent, adoption is the most loving solution to an unplanned pregnancy. It is a selfless decision that offers her child the love and security of a home that he or she deserves.
Q: How does the Adoption Center of Choice find loving families?
A: We carefully screen every prospective parent and family who comes to us wanting to adopt. We visit their home, run background and criminal checks, and obtain medical and other information to ensure that your baby will be raised in a safe and loving home. We have several adoptive families to choose from.
Q: What if I have other children, but need to travel and stay with you?
A: Not a problem. We house birth mothers and their children, as well as provide transportation, groceries, etc. We realize that you may want your other children around you during such a time as this.
Q: Can I choose an open or a closed adoption?
A: Yes. You are the birth mother and you make the decisions. You can choose the degree of openness.
Q: What if I am in trouble right now, need financial help and a place to live while pregnant?
A: Call us immediately at 1-800-570-0480. Should you desire, we will make arrangements to bring you here to our facility. We have several apartments and can provide airline transportation, medical, housing, food and other needs for you at this time, should you choose The Adoption Center of Choice.
Q: How will a birth mother know if her child is being well taken care of?
A: Parents who adopt through licensed agencies such as The Adoption Center of Choice must prove through a series of tests and questions, called a home study that they are prepared and ready to accept such responsibilities. The Adoption Center of Choice is very selective of its families and protective of its birth mothers and adopted babies. We only place children in good and loving homes. Also, the birth mother can request and designate an open adoption, where she will be able to keep tabs on her child as he or she grows through letters and pictures.
